What is the Splitgate 2 release date? 1047 Games has finally broken its silence, revealing to the world its sequel to one of the best arena shooters out there. While Splitgate 2 is still filled to the brim with portal-poppin’ action, there are new strategic layers to the shooter that could take it to the next-level thanks to the introduction of class-based factions: Aeros, Meridian, and Sabrask.
While plenty of new games are announced with a glitzy CGI trailer before going dark for a hot minute, 1047 has been quick off the mark to let Splitgate 2 gameplay out into the wild for us all to salivate over. We’re not saying it’s going to be one of the best FPS games of 2025 – it’s too early for that. However, as firm Splitgate enjoyers, we can’t wait to see how the studio incorporates its learnings from the original game into this shiny new endeavor. Here’s what we know about the Splitgate 2 release date so far, including information about the trailers, gameplay, and more.
Splitgate 2 release date window
Splitgate 2 will be released sometime in 2025, as confirmed by the game’s cinematic announcement trailer that was released in July 2024. Splitgate 2 is set to arrive on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Though we’re seemingly still a ways out from a concrete date, we can at least offer up an educated estimate on when we expect the new PC game to drop. Considering it’s already in closed testing, as demonstrated by the gameplay reveal video, it will likely arrive sooner rather than later next year.
Additionally, considering the release cadences of competitors like Call of Duty, it would make the most sense for Splitgate 2 to land in the first half of the year. Of course, as a free PC game, Splitgate 2 will draw a crowd whenever its release date materializes, but avoiding major content drops from Goliathan shooters is always a plus.
Splitgate 2 trailer
So far, we’ve only had the cinematic announcement trailer for Splitgate 2 which aired on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Already, we can see there’s a major departure from the original game with the introduction of Splitgate 2’s three main factions. From the footage shown, it’s clear that each faction has its own unique abilities, which could see the importance of portals diminish despite their continued presence in the series.
Splitgate 2 gameplay
In early August 2024, 1047 aired in-game footage of the 4v4 shooter for the first time. Taken from a playtest featuring top aimers like Timothy ‘iiTzTimmy’ An and Seth ‘Scump’ Abner, the video introduced the new core features that separate Splitgate 2 from its predecessor, namely the factions and the abilities you’ll be able to use.
Each faction looks incredibly distinct, which is the bare minimum when it comes to building a robust class system. Aeros is geared towards entry fragging and agile movement, think Wraith from Apex Legends or Jett from Valorant. Meridian, meanwhile, is more supportive, boasting healing grenades and wallhacks that allow them to spot players behind cover. Sabrask is perhaps the most straightforward class, operating as a shielder and grenadier, but that’s not to say it’s any weaker than the other two.
Judging from the comms, the Sabrask smart wall is going to become a must-use piece of utility when it comes to bunkering down positions. However, as with any team-based game that has a faction system, you’ll want to mix and match your team composition to maximize your strategic options.
There’s one more major addition we spotted in the gameplay video that’s well worth highlighting: sliding. That’s right, the freneticism is being dialed up to 11 in Splitgate 2 as you’ll be able to glide across the floor at top speed, we’re very excited about this.
Alongside Splitgate 2, 1047 has released a brand-new companion app. The app features lore-driven comics and cards to collect, allowing you to immerse yourself in the game’s universe ahead of launch. You’ll also eventually be able to earn in-game rewards through the app.
And that’s everything you need to know about the Splitgate 2 release date for now. Be sure to check back regularly for updates, as it looks like they’re going to be coming hot and heavy.
