LAS VEGAS – Ryan getzlaf tied Teemu Selanne for the Anaheim Ducks’ point record in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.
Getzlaf notched an assist at 11:18 of the third period, his 988th point in the NHL, on a goal of Troy terry to reduce the Vegas lead to 4-2.
“He’s an old soul. He’s an incredible leader, and I think he’s going to take it without hesitation, ”Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. “I think he’ll only have a quiet smile about it. I don’t think that’ll give him any idea of what it really means until years after he’s finished playing.”
Getzlaf is eighth in the NHL in points (949) since 2006-07 and is 12 points away from becoming the first player to score 1,000 points with the Ducks.
“Personally it’s one of the coolest things I think I’ve been a part of for another person,” said the Ducks rookie forward. Trevor Zegras noted. “What he brings to this team is more than any other person. And being just a small piece of his incredible career is something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

Anaheim (2-4-3) recovered from 4-1 in the third period, scoring three times in the space of 5:11 to tie the game. Isac Lundestrom scored on a rebound at 3:44 pm to bring the score to 4-3, and Adam henrique tied 4-4 at 16:29 on a deflection from a point drawn by Kevin shattenkirk.
John gibson made 38 saves for Anaheim, who played the second from a back-to-back; the Ducks lost 4-3 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabers on Thursday after rallying 3-0. It was their sixth consecutive defeat (0-3-3).
Evgenii Dadonov scored the deciding shootout goal late in the fourth round for the Golden Knights (4-4-0), who won their third straight game after losing four of their top five.
“It’s been a huge week for us,” said Golden Knights coach Peter DeBoer. “We were on an absolutely disastrous start. I thought the guys dug deep all week to get us back to 0.500 here.
Chandler Stephenson and Nicolas The Hague each had a goal and an assist, and Jonathan marchessault got two assists for Vegas. Robin lehner made 34 saves.

Reilly smith gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 3:30 of the first period when he scored on the rebound of his own shot.
Vegas dominated Anaheim 10-0 in 4:31, 21-8 in the first period.
“Even though we were terribly dominated in the first one, ‘Gibby’ put on a performance that I haven’t seen in a while,” said Eakins. “I think this is probably the best hockey I have ever seen in the first period.
Hague made it 2-0 at 3:52 of the second period on a landing shot from the highest lunge.
Zegras reduced it to 2-1 at 3:49 p.m. Sonny milano forced a turnover behind the net and Zegras scored from a single shot alone into the lunge.
Stephenson scored his fourth goal for the team at 2:45 of the third to increase the lead to 3-1. He leads the Golden Knights with nine points; seven of them (three goals, four assists) came with teammates Brand Pierre and Max Pacioretty due to injury.
“This guy is a great player,” DeBoer said. “Maybe it’s his individual talent, he maybe has the most in our team, when it comes to skating and puck skills. When you watch this guy in training the sky is the limit for him with the talent he has. I just love how he’s worked and how he’s competed from injury. “

Guillaume Carrier scored his first goal of the season at 5:56 for a 4-1 lead.
“You can’t let a team come back from 4-1,” Marchessault said. “It’s disappointing, but we are going to take the win.”
REMARKS: Getzlaf has 279 goals and 709 assists in 1,110 NHL games in 17 seasons. Selanne has 457 goals and 531 assists in 966 games in 15 seasons. … Getzlaf has the fourth most main assists in the NHL (382) since 2007-08 and is fifth in assists (684) since 2006-07. He also leads the NHL in overtime assists (24) and is tied for fourth in overtime points (35). … Terry extended his career-high NHL point streak to seven games (four goals, five assists). … Marchessault is one in 300 in the NHL. … Stephenson, acquired in a trade with the Washington Capitals on December 2, 2019, played his 100th game with the Golden Knights and is one in 100 in the NHL. He scored 66 points (26 goals, 40 assists) with Vegas after scoring 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists) in five seasons with Washington. … Vegas’ record for first-period shots is 22 (April 9, 2021 against the Arizona Coyotes and October 31, 2019 against the Ducks). … Each skater had at least one shot for Vegas, with six per team for Hague.
