Sixth-grade students at Pioneer Middle School will learn remotely for the rest of the week due to COVID absences

TOWNSHIP OF PLYMOUTH, Michigan. – Students from sixth to College of Pioneers in Township of Plymouth will switch to distance learning for the remainder of the week due to a high number of COVID-related absences, officials said.

In a message sent to families, school officials said there had been an increase in positive cases of COVID at the college, which led to more close contacts.

“Right now, more than 25% of Pioneer sixth graders are out of school, either as a positive case or as a close contact quarantine,” the post said.

School officials have decided to suspend in-person learning for sixth-graders for the remainder of the week. These students will switch to distance learning starting Tuesday (November 9) and return to in-person learning next week (Monday November 15), depending on the school.

While learning remotely, sixth graders will follow their normal bell schedules online, the school said. School will start at 8:15 am and end at 3:09 pm Students should follow their normal lunch and recess schedule for the week and access Canvas and Zoom as they did during virtual school days. 2020.

School officials said teachers would reestablish their Zoom links in Canvas and modify lessons to bring them into line with the virtual format.

The decision was made to “ensure the greatest continuity of learning” for sixth-graders, the post said.

Students should check their emails in the morning for specific instructions from teachers, or email teachers if they are having difficulty accessing Canvas, the school said.

Here is the weekly bell schedule:

  • Main room: 8:15 am-8:35am

  • 1st hour: 8:40 am-9:34 am

  • 2nd hour: 9:39 am-10:33 am

  • 3rd hour: 10:38 am-11:32 am

  • 4th hour: 11:37 a.m.-12:31 p.m.

  • Lunch / recreation: 12:31 -1:11

  • 5th hour: 1h16-2h10

  • 6th hour: 2:15 p.m.-3:09 p.m.

The seventh and eighth graders will continue with their regular schedule in person, officials said.
